As all US college and university students have learned at one point or another, that funding for ANYTHING that goes on at the Federal level of US government ALWAYS involves US Congressional budget decision-making and Congressional legislation, and that includes US military funding. Funding for the US military is, in truth and in fact, so complicated, that it isn't easy to assess these days even the least of ongoing directions of US military investments and defense posturing. If the US War Department is nowadays classifying so many different types of what was once publicly available information about the US military as private only, then what was once considered a civilian-led US military is at present a US military-executive led military that doesn't necessarily have to answer to the American public for anything that it is doing or plans to do involving national defense or warfare! And that is a terrifying new development in US national and international defense policy! 

The reports of multiple high-level firings of US Generals, Admirals and Pentagon staff by Hegseth -Trump are not only disconcerting for US political observers, but also suspect are the "reasons for the firings"! They include often spurious or even ridiculous DEI or WOKE accusations against the military personnel involved, but more distressingly, additional Hegseth -Trump accusations that the US military leaders chosen by this Administration for firings were "not aligned with the current Administration's intentions and directions for today's US Armed Forces". These firing actions, objectively and historically speaking, have never been previously used in the US as an excuse for firing so many US military leaders! By firing them, Hegseth -Trump may already have significantly deteriorated and degraded US national security, as well as completely eliminated the internal Pentagon leadership possibilities of arguing against and correcting bad executive decisions, various national or coordinated international military intelligence reports, and/or correcting and arguing against serious mistakes made in command authority decisions affecting US military service people serving all around the world and in space!

Having said that, here is a compiled list we here at TLO have made about the several possible "chess moves" that the Trump Administration could make before or after the US Midterm elections in order to control a potentially and strongly, socially divisive result that changes US Congressional dynamics from a Republican trifecta to a Democrat-led US House, US Senate, or both! Remember the January 6 Capitol Riots? Any similar events coming as a result of these Midterm elections no matter what happens along the way could make those events seem like a walk in the park compared to what may be coming for the United States nationally before, during and after Election Day!

As millions of US Americans TODAY know, Trump publicly spoke in front of a MAGA rally and defended his actions in the "US's" (AKA "Trump's") war against Iran, stating that to "let them (Iran) take out Los Angeles or San Diego..." would be a small price to pay for winning this war (against Iran)! And the mesmerized crowds cheered him on! That was not an American rally! That sounded more like Mussolini or Hitler foaming at the mouth while describing the pain and suffering they would inflict upon their own countrymen if they dissented against their national participations in WWII! And despite Trump's "correction statement" made at another rally following the despicable incident previously, it still leaves a bitter taste in the mouth of MAGA critics and everyday Americans from California that Trump seemed at first willing to sacrifice US cities with high concentrations of US military stations, and US military personnel, and US civilians before being condemned all throughout news and social media for saying what he said.

Additionally, Trump has made glaringly false statements at other GOP rallies for US Republican midterm candidates, including falsely naming companies that are planning future investments in the USA, and also excusing himself for consistently making untimely comments about the "beautiful women" he works with or appoints to Federal offices. During one rally he even strangely spoke of WNBA player Sophie Cunningham's "beauty" and stated that "Sophie is a beautiful young woman. You probably wouldn’t mind her on the team, not to help you with points, but to help you with attendance. The attendance would be great." Whatever. 

Trump has displayed a condemnable habit of seeming to introduce the new possibility of future US politicians to encourage favoritism based upon female appearance for Federal and Executive jobs and even encouraging potential sexual harassment in US government by making statements such as these constantly. He has now expanded these encouragements and statements into the field of women's sports! Is this part of an overall Trump plan to describe future Democrats as too "unattractive" to hold public office? That thought wouldn't surprise any of us here at TLO considering that many of Trump's mainly female picks for executive Federal positions are previous beauty contest contestants or those who portray a glamorous lifestyle! And no matter what their job qualifications are. Exceptions to this general "Trump-style" Federal hiring and nomination and job appointment pattern are hard to find, honestly. And when it comes to convincing innocent people to do something that goes against against their own sober conscience, there is an old French saying: "..Cherchez la femme..."

Most recently, Trump has issued a 48 hour warning to California government to separate out ballots of alleged non-citizen voters or face a lawsuit. This action begs the question of how a non-citizen can register to vote in the first place and further delays efforts at accurately counting already submitted votes in California by mail. It's obvious that despite already existing and submitted evidence that non-citizens haven't previously registered or voted in California elections, that somehow- because "Trump says so"- they now do, and California is expected to back Trump on this fallible assumption! Whatever! Now California can possibly expect a delayed outcome when it comes to tallying 2026 midterm votes. But.....so what? No matter how long it takes, California has an effective and excellent track record for accurate and secure voting regardless of anything, including anarchy, cheating and chaos that the Trump party can conjure up to interfere with California elections! And ANOTHER question is WHY Trump singled out California for this particular type of lawsuit? And it could be for the same reasons that Trump denied funding for blue states and provided funding for red states in 2025 before a Us Federal Judge intervened to force Trump to release ALL designated funding or face punitive actions! Trump using partisan executive decisions to break US laws and attack US Democrats! 

And in yet another alarming incident, and right before the midterm elections, US Congressional Democrat House Representative from Minnesota Ilhan Omar's house in Washington DC was raided by FBI agents pursuing evidence of immigration law crimes that were possibly to be located at her house. US Rep. Omar has been living in the US for 31 years, after emigrating from a Kenyan refugee camp after fleeing Somalia. Trump has repeatedly attacked Omar and her legal presence in the US as he believes she is illegal and should be deported for immigration fraud, which the FBI has previously done, and DHS has been investigating, again, without either agency finding any proof! 

At the time of this writing, Trump has threatened California voter and registration workers with possible fines and/or imprisonment for not eliminating non-citizens from voter rolls, a law that already exists in California and under which no non-citizens are allowed to register and vote in Federal elections! Trump is pulling out all of the fear-mongering stops he can in order to interfere with normal elections processes by constantly brining up the fetid and stale subject of illegal voting which wasn't even proven after numerous attempts at doing so since 2016-2020 when Trump first started accusing the US elections as "being rigged" without introducing ANY PROOF leading to his accusations! Like the Reflection Pool debacle of his, Trump's delusional nature and hunches are not only getting people killed and falsely charged with crimes they haven't committed, but are delaying the US elections processes even more than they are usually delayed because of the sheer number of US citizens voting per election year per US State and US Territory! 

Normally, or at least under normal circumstances during an election year, both houses of US Congress are usually at work and in session. This practice protects the US national defense and security from unexpected surprises that could affect the country during elections season and would require potentially rapid emergency and/or important and immediate US Congressional decisions -and also the ongoing and continuous Congressional decision -making maintenance needed for conducting and insuring timely US voting operations -because the Congress is necessary to certify the final elections tally and declare the winners of important US elections including, and up to, the President of the United States. BUT, House Speaker Johnson recessed the House from October until November AFTER the elections, which from this voter perspective makes NO ACTUAL SENSE! To add insult to injury, Trump in July, 2026 fired the whole US Election Assistance Commission  and has not appointed any new commission members, which will strongly and negatively affect the elections processes in November during the Midterms!
